چکیده
Adiabatic Compressed Air Energy Storage (ACAES) is regarded as a promising, grid scale, medium-to-long duration energy storage technology. In ACAES, the air may be isochoric (constant volume) or isobaric pressure). Isochoric storage, wherein internal pressure cycles between an upper and lower limit system charges discharges mechanically simpler, however, it leads to undesirable thermodynamic consequences which are detrimental ACAES overall performance. Isobaric can valuable alternative: volume varies offset temperature changes that would otherwise occur mass enters leaves high-pressure storage. this paper we develop model based on expected existing CAES features compare effects of Importantly, off-design compressor performance due sliding included by using second degree polynomial fit for isentropic efficiency. For our modelled systems, round-trip efficiency (RTE) reaches 61.5%. The achieves 57.8% even when no decrease taken into account. This fact associated inherent losses throttling mixing heat stored at different temperatures. base-case scenario where 55% 85%, RTE approximately 10% than isobaric. These results indicate worth further development. We suggest subsequent work investigate exergy flows well scalability challenges with mechanisms.

Thermodynamic Analysis of Three Compressed Air Energy Storage Systems: Conventional, Adiabatic, and Hydrogen-Fueled
We present analyses of three families of compressed air energy storage (CAES) systems: conventional CAES, in which the heat released during air compression is not stored and natural gas is combusted to provide heat during discharge; adiabatic CAES, in which the compression heat is stored; and CAES in which the compression heat is used to assist water electrolysis for hydrogen storage. The latte...
متن کاملAdiabatic Compressed Air Energy Storage with packed bed thermal energy storage
The majority of articles on Adiabatic Compressed Air Energy Storage (A-CAES) so far have focussed on the use of indirect-contact heat exchangers and a thermal fluid in which to store the compression heat. While packed beds have been suggested, a detailed analysis of A-CAESwith packed beds is lacking in the available literature. This paper presents such an analysis. We develop a numerical model ...
متن کاملAdiabatic compressed air energy storage – a study on dynamic performance with thermal energy storage
Up to day, 70% of the gross electricity (~ 20000 TWh) is produced via fossil fuel; to reduce this share and abate CO2 emissions the energy system will face a dramatic change in the near future consisting in a significant introduction of intermittent renewable energy sources. The implementation of this step change will be possible only through efficient and economic grid-scale electrical energy ...
